Clearly, the evolution of Netflix on Apple TV is going from bad to worse and the arrival of this new video player is not about to help the situation…
We cannot say that the Netflix application is the best optimized on Apple TV, far from it. And even if she had been entitled to a nice dusting with this new interface in 2025, it is clear that the streaming platform is still struggling to find its place and put Apple users in the pocket.
However, Netflix is trying to evolve and has just introduced a brand new video player to replace that of the bitten apple brand. The quality still needs to be there… We’ll take a complete look.
The new Netflix video player on Apple TV is not unanimous
A priori, this little novelty should have been innocuous but it ultimately took proportions that few people imagined. While the Netflix application has so far relied on Apple’s native video player, it has finally decided to replace it with its own drive. It didn’t take long before users complained on Reddit…
Indeed, the latter point the finger in particular navigation which would be much more complicated than beforeespecially to move forward or backward in a video. Worse yet: some key features such as end time display and “Picture-in-Picture” (floating window) completely disappeared from the player. A hell of a glow down which risks pushing a good number of subscribers to desert the platform.
And the problems don’t stop there, since automations via iPhone and smart subtitles would also be less fluid than before (or even would not work). Taking stock, it is therefore quite difficult to understand this choice by Netflix.

No going back possible?
At first glance, one might think that this is just a simple test of Netflix while waiting to see the reaction of users. But even with so much negative feedback in such a short timeit seems that the streaming platform is not not about to reverse his decision. Indeed, this new video player would offer better control over the interface (even if it does not bring no new features that could benefit users).
In any case, Netflix’s popularity risks taking a hit on Apple TV boxes, especially since a new generation should arrive soon. If we add to this price increase and competition is gaining momentum, the scenario risks taking a dramatic turn for the American platform…
