Jay Blahnik will leave Apple this summer, announces the New York Times. The fitness instructor joined Cupertino 2013 and helped set up the Apple Watch’s sports tracking features (he’s notably behind its activity rings). He then oversaw Apple Fitness+, Apple’s fitness training service launched in 2020. In an email sent to his employees this week, Jay Blahnik indicates that he will retire in July “To spend time with family and make an exciting move to New York.”

At 57 years old, Jay Blahnik was accused of inappropriate behavior and toxic management last year, with numerous damning testimonies to boot. Following the departure of Jeff Williams a few months later, Apple reorganized its Apple Watch and health teams, with Jay Blahnik coming under the supervision of Sumbul Desai in what looked like a shelving. The announcement of this departure is therefore not a big surprise.
