Senegal-Morocco: a strong trend emerges for the TAS

The story has generated a lot of ink for several weeks already. Since CAF’s announcement to declare Senegal the loser on the green carpet of the CAN 2025 final, Morocco and Senegal have been divided. If the Senegalese still publicly claim this coronation, we will have to wait for the decision of the CAS to finally rule on the decision. Obviously, everyone is waiting for the verdict from the Swiss body.

And according to information from the Egyptian media “Koora“, a strong trend is emerging since several specialists in sports law (including specialist lawyer Ralph Charbel) believe that articles 82 and 84 are “lex specialis”, special laws which take precedence over any general provision. Consequently, Senegal would indeed be stripped of its title and could even see CAF sanction it for its celebrations during Senegal-Peru since the Lions of Teranga are officially no longer champions and they have therefore “usurped” this title during the celebration. This would therefore help Morocco’s affairs. On the other hand, the Egyptian media explains that the matter is complex since Senegal also has serious arguments, notably the fact that the match has come to an end, which corresponds to the legal principle known as “acquiescence”. Also, both camps have arguments that have not yet been made public. In short, the CAS has its work cut out for it and should rule in the coming weeks to close the debates.
