JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Lanes have reopened after two people were killed Wednesday morning in a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 95 near Old St. Augustine Road.

The accident, which occurred at 4:48 a.m., blocked all northbound lanes for several hours.

The two people who died, a 56-year-old Palm Coast man and a 38-year-old Jacksonville man, were standing outside of their vehicles on the inside shoulder, a Florida Highway Patrol news release states.

They were hit by a pickup truck driven by a 63-year-old Wilton Manors man, FHP said.

“For reasons yet to be determined, [the vehicles] were parked just north of the pickup truck in the inside lane,” FHP’s news release states. “The occupants… were standing in the inside shoulder near their vehicles… [the pickup truck] swerved into the inside shoulder striking both the parked vehicles and the pedestrians.”

The driver of the pickup was not injured, the news release states.
