NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Tennessee firefighter was hospitalized after experiencing a medical emergency while driving on Thursday, causing a fire engine to crash into a chiropractic office in Nashville, authorities said.
The Nashville Fire Department was returning from a call when the driver veered off the road into a shed, as reported by WSMV. The vehicle then hit a telephone pole, crossed both lanes of traffic, struck two parked vehicles, and ended up crashing into the office of Bradshaw Chiropractic, according to the television station.
The firefighter was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, as per WTVF. It was not clear what medical issue the firefighter was facing that led to the crash.
Two individuals suffered minor injuries while avoiding the crash, according to the TV station. They refused medical treatment, as reported by WZTV.
Kevin Bradshaw, the owner of the clinic, mentioned to WSMV that office staff assisted patients in evacuating safely.
“All of a sudden we heard our front desk clerk, Bree, she started shouting,” Bradshaw told the television station. “The rest of our staff came running through, grabbing people from the hallway. It was incredible.”
Bradshaw added that he witnessed the truck heading towards the front of the office.
“It came in, and I just kind of watched it come in, and there it was,” Bradshaw informed WTVF. “It’s like one of those movies where everybody disappears from the driver’s seats and the car runs into buildings and stuff – that’s what it felt like in that moment.”
The firefighter is expected to fully recover, as per WSMV.
