TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – It was an eviction lawsuit that quickly turned into international news. Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare filed a lawsuit after a patient refused to leave months after being discharged.

According to Leon County court records, Charlotte Paynter had been discharged from TMH on October 6, 2025 by her attending physician. They claimed she “no longer required acute care hospital services.”

Court records show that TMH filed the lawsuit on March 2, 2026, and subsequently filed to dismiss the lawsuit “with prejudice” on March 16, the same day that WCTV and other local media outlets broke the news of the lawsuit.

In the days following that initial coverage, WCTV made attempts to get a comment from TMH regarding the lawsuit after the story began making international headlines.

TMH told WCTV that they do not discuss legal matters.

A spokesperson from TMH confirmed to WCTV Monday morning that the case was “no longer active, and the person was no longer at TMH.”
