VALUABLE PAINTINGS STOLEN FROM MUSEUM IN ITALY
Important artworks by Renoir, Cezanne, and Matisse were stolen from a museum in northern Italy. The theft, which only took three minutes, occurred at the Magnani-Rocca Foundation near Parma.
The stolen paintings include “Les Poissons” by Renoir, “Still Life With Cherries” by Cezanne, and “Odalisque on the Terrace” by Matisse. The total value of the artworks is around $10 million.
Authorities initially kept the theft quiet in hopes of catching the thieves if they returned. One artwork was left behind when the thieves were interrupted by the museum’s security system.
The theft is believed to be part of a well-planned and organized operation. The museum, founded by Luigi Magnani, houses classical and contemporary art by various renowned artists.
