One of the most competitive fields in the Diamond League season is about to go down.
On May 23, 2026, the Wanda Diamond League event in Xiamen, China, will showcase some of the top female 100m Hurdlers in the world. Olympic Champions, World Champions, and World Record Holders Masai Russell, Ditaji Kambundji, Danielle Williams, Tobi Amusan, and Deyvonne Charlton will battle it out in what promises to be an electrifying race.
Each athlete has had their time at the top and will provide tough competition in China.
USA’s Masai Russell leads the pack as the current Olympic Champion. Her success in Paris has solidified her status as one of the best hurdlers globally, with multiple U.S. titles and consistent performances on the world stage. The only other hurdler to make it to the Olympic finals with Russell was Deyvonne Charlton, who finished sixth.
Ditaji Kambundji comes into the event with momentum from her gold medal win at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. The Swiss athlete defeated some of her future competitors in Xiamen and has already climbed to No. 7 on the all-time list at just 23 years old.
No discussion of the 100m hurdles is complete without mentioning Tobi Amusan. With a silver medal from Tokyo in 2025 and a gold from Eugene in 2022, Amusan has vast experience at the World level, but her current World Record holds significant weight.
At the 2022 World Championships, Amusan set the World Record with a time of 12.12. Nearly four years later, the record still stands, but with Russell in the No. 2 spot, it’s only a matter of time before it’s broken.
Veteran athlete Danielle Williams also brings her proven success to the table. The Jamaican hurdler is a two-time World Champion (2015, 2023) and has been a consistent contender in global finals for almost a decade.
Another experienced contender, Deyvonne Charlton, shares the veteran status in the field, having tied the world record at the 2026 World Indoor Championships. Charlton, a dominant force in the 60m hurdles, will rely on her confidence from the World Record and three World Championship titles to vie for victory in Xiamen.
As the third event in the Wanda Diamond League series, Xiamen sets the stage for thrilling competitions to come.
