Residents in a Jacksonville neighborhood are concerned about a dangerous curve that has become a hotspot for crashes. They are urging the city to take action before someone gets seriously injured.
Jared Powers, a long-time resident, has documented multiple accidents in the area and is calling for measures to address the speeding drivers and frequent wrecks. He and other neighbors have observed drivers exceeding the speed limit significantly, with some reaching speeds of nearly 40 miles per hour in a 20 to 25 mile per hour zone.
Despite complaints and requests for speed bumps, the city’s response has been limited to installing signage, which residents say has not been effective in slowing down drivers. The cost of installing speed humps has also been a deterrent, as residents were informed that they might have to cover the expenses.
Safety concerns, especially for children in the neighborhood, are paramount for residents like Powers. They fear that if action is not taken soon, a serious injury or fatality could occur.
Neighbors are determined to keep advocating for solutions such as speed humps or increased enforcement to prevent future accidents. Officials have been contacted for comments on the issue, but no response has been received at the time of publication.
