Match Analysis
Today (30 March), the Water Resources University will play its first match of the 2nd International Youth and Student Football Tournament – THACO Cup 2026. Coach Vu Van Trung’s team will face the National University of Singapore, the reigning champion of the city-state’s university football championship.
The National University of Singapore did not have a perfect start, suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat against Svay Rieng University (Cambodia). Conceding a goal just six seconds into their first match, then collapsing under intense pressure from Svay Rieng University, the Singaporeans became the big losers of the first day.

The National University of Singapore failed to show superiority, neither in attack nor defense. Their defense proved fragile, with many poor positioning in aerial duels and on counterattacks. A lack of organization and concentration led to a heavy defeat, threatening the National University of Singapore with an early elimination from the tournament.
On the other hand, the Water Resources University is elated after their victory in the International Youth and Student Football Cup THACO 2026. With 14 goals scored and none conceded throughout the competition, they confirm their undisputed dominance in Vietnamese school football for many years. “For the Water Resources University, the preparation for the 2nd International Youth and Student Football Cup – THACO 2026 continues from the national tournament. The coaching staff has helped the players regain their composure. Physical and mental recovery after a tournament where they gave their all was essential. This precious break allowed them to recover after a drop in performance,” said Coach Vu Van Trung, after helping his players overcome the euphoria of victory.

Compared to the National University of Singapore, the Water Resources University team has a slight advantage in terms of game organization and zone defense. The set-pieces and aerial game of the Vietnamese team promise to exploit the weaknesses of their international opponent, thanks to the technique of Nguyen Hoang Danh and the goal sense of Tran Duc Hoan. More importantly, after six matches, the Water Resources University team knows the dimensions of the field, the playing space, and the weather conditions of Nha Trang well. On the other hand, the Singaporean team seems to have trouble adapting.
The Water Resources University is strong enough to win the match and qualify for the semi-finals of the 2nd International Youth and Student Football Tournament – THACO Cup 2026.
