Line Renaud rallies stars and citizens for Sidaction 2026 in the face of declining donations and the persistence of AIDS in France, a still vital fight.
On March 27, Line Renaud launches the 32nd Sidaction campaign, mobilizing numerous stars to raise awareness about the decline in donations and the spread of AIDS.
Icon of the music and film world, Line Renaud has been an essential figure in the French scene for decades. Recognized for her talent, generosity, and commitment, she is as much known for her timeless songs as for her humanitarian work, including the fight against AIDS. As the disease remains a reality, Line Renaud speaks out once again for a new Sidaction, proving that at 97 years old, her dedication remains unwavering. The launch of the 32nd campaign on Friday, March 27, refocuses attention on the importance of donations in the face of stagnation – or even regression – of funding, while HIV continues to spread throughout France.
Sidaction 2026: Line Renaud, the face of unwavering mobilization against AIDS
Sidaction would likely not be what it is without Line Renaud. Since the 1980s, she has understood the catastrophic impact of HIV. “It became my reason for being. I think it was meant for me, I am tenacious and I love people,” she said in 2021 to Le Parisien. She and Pierre Bergé orchestrated the first major charity gala in Paris in 1985, a memorable evening where Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn were reunited. The result was immediate: “1 million francs” raised, a decisive sum to advance research and aid long-stigmatized patients.
A galaxy of stars by Line Renaud’s side to awaken solidarity
For this edition of Sidaction, the event takes on the air of a true solidarity mobilization. Social networks and television sets are filled with messages of support from the most widely recognized figures in the country. Faustine Bollaert, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Nikos Aliagas, Nagui, Anne-Sophie Lapix, as well as Laury Thilleman and Christophe Beaugrand, are involved. This diverse collective, from varied backgrounds such as fashion, journalism, music, or entertainment, acts as a sounding board for all audiences. The sense of community, facilitated by Line Renaud’s closeness to younger generations, gives strength to the message: the fight against AIDS knows no fatigue or boundaries of age or career.
From the Paradis Latin to today: an unwavering will and a historic impact
Reviewing Line Renaud’s journey is to measure the astonishing persistence of a strong will. From the first charity gala at Paradis Latin in 1985 to the current campaign, each stage of the Sidaction’s history bears her mark. Over thirty-two years of successive campaigns, the singer and actress has gone from discreet initiator to an emblematic figure in the fight against AIDS. Thanks to her presence, each call, each evening, each TV show has taken on a new dimension, uniting several generations and challenging conventional narratives. Sidaction has accompanied, informed, reassured, and touched, becoming one of the biggest solidarity movements in modern French society.
Over the years, Line Renaud has surrounded herself, passing on the torch to influential figures, while remaining true to her initial convictions: humans first, science in support, the memory of the first victims still alive. And today, at 97 years old, nothing has changed. Line Renaud’s voice remains one of collective struggle, held high to remind that AIDS is never defeated, and only mobilization will move us forward.
