Police were kept busy in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood on Sunday after being called to two separate shootings, resulting in one fatality and another person being hospitalized in critical condition.
At 2:28 a.m., officers responded to two ShotSpotter alerts on South 18th Street at Carson Street, near Fatheads, totaling eight rounds. They found a man with multiple gunshot wounds on the street and provided aid until EMS arrived. Despite their efforts, the man, later identified as 23-year-old Amaree Dawson of Bellevue, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Violent Crime Division detectives are currently investigating this incident.
Just hours before this fatal shooting, police had also responded to a shooting at the intersection of South 15th Street and Bingham Street, reported just after midnight. In this case, a man was found on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Following the second shooting, Pittsburgh Police Chief Jason Lando confirmed that it was a road rage incident and unrelated to the earlier shooting. The suspect, 25-year-old Devin Singleton of Pittsburgh, was arrested. Officials are continuing their investigation into this incident.
