A common saying in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship is that anything can happen at any moment, and that held true during Round 11 of the Monster Energy SMX World Championship at Ford Field. The challenging racetrack, featuring the toughest whoop section of the season, tested the skills of the top racers, resulting in a thrilling shakeup in the 450SMX Class title fight. Ken Roczen of Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki dominated the race, securing his 25th career victory.
The 20-minute + 1 lap 450SMX Class Main Event started with Jorge Prado of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing grabbing the holeshot, followed by Roczen and Chase Sexton of Monster Energy Kawasaki. Championship leader Hunter Lawrence struggled to make progress from the top 10, while Eli Tomac of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing found himself starting outside the top 10. Roczen eventually took the lead from Prado and maintained it despite challenges. Prado later had a brief tussle with Cooper Webb of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, resulting in both riders falling back in the field.
Roczen extended his lead over Sexton as Lawrence fought back from a poor start to reach third. However, Lawrence crashed hard in the whoops section, forcing him to have his bike fixed and losing a lap in the process. Roczen continued to pull away and clinched the win with a 7.7-second lead over Sexton. Malcolm Stewart of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing secured his first podium finish of the season in third place, followed by Justin Cooper of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing and Tomac in fifth. Lawrence finished in 18th place after battling through another fall.
With Tomac reclaiming the top spot in the standings, the championship battle has intensified, with Roczen closing in within 14 points of the lead. The competition remains tight with six races left in the season.
