PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) – Protesters break into Portland ICE facility following ‘No Kings’ demonstration

Protesters ended up breaking open the gate at the Portland Immigration and Customs Enforcement building just after 6:30 p.m. Federal agents pushed the crowd back and Portland police announced they were making several arrests at the scene.

During the demonstration, an American flag and a Nazi flag were burned before authorities ordered all protesters to leave the area.

The ‘No Kings’ rallies in Portland were part of a series of protests held across the country on Saturday, focusing on the Iran conflict and President Donald Trump’s actions.

“We have to stand up,” protester Sarah Gomm said. “We have to show at least our representatives what we want because they are not serving us right now.”

Organizers estimated that more than 9 million people participated in Saturday’s rallies in the U.S.

The National Republican Congressional Committee criticized the rallies, with spokesperson Maureen O’Toole saying, “These Hate America Rallies are where the far-left’s most violent, deranged fantasies get a microphone.”

Organizers emphasized their commitment to nonviolent action and had expectations that protestors would de-escalate tense situations.
