The exciting allure of Extreme Choice and the strength of the Inglis Easter yearling market were evident on the first day at Riverside, where Newgate Stud’s prominent stallion showcased top-priced lots including a AU$3 million colt on March 29.

Leading up to the sale, Inglis officials had tempered their expectations due to uncertainties surrounding the ongoing conflict in Iran and its economic ramifications, affecting global stock markets and fuel prices.

Despite the impressive catalog and quality offerings, concerns arose that last year’s AU$3 million record price might not be matched, especially given the current global events.

However, doubts were quickly dispelled as Coolmore’s Tom Magnier secured the top lot, a powerful bay colt by Extreme Choice, in a competitive bidding war. Trainer Clinton McDonald and Shane McGrath Bloodstock also made a significant purchase of a filly for AU$1.8 million.

Additionally, a Zoustar filly by Widden Stud fetched AU$1.8 million on par with Lot 117, adding to the day’s success at the auction.

The opening session saw a drop in some key indicators compared to the previous year, but Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch expressed satisfaction with the outcome, given initial concerns related to the Middle East situation.

With an average of AU$452,603 and a gross of AU$66,080,000, the sale saw a mix of prices but indicated a strong interest in quality horses from a diverse group of buyers.

Looking ahead to the next day of the sale, Hutch anticipates continued excitement and potential for higher bids, especially after Magnier’s sole purchase on the first day.

Overall, the performance of Extreme Choice’s offspring at the sale has been highly anticipated, with his limited offerings showcasing a high average sale price and generating significant interest from buyers participating in the auction.
