3 questions for Julie Richoz, the designer who has just signed an outdoor capsule for Tectona – Elle Decoration

To continue a collaboration initiated in 2017 with Tectona, the Franco-Swiss designer (photo) enriches the “Cicala” collection with five new outdoor pieces (two tables, two sofas and an armchair).

ELLE Decoration. What were your inspirations to create the rest of this collection?

Julie Richoz. An almost romantic lightness carried by the metal curves, nourished by wrought iron garden furniture and a plant imagination. I like this dialogue between the undulating softness of stainless steel and the warm rigor of teak.

ELLE Decoration. How did your meeting with Tectona come about?

Julie Richoz. The Tectona teams spotted my work with the “Ears” vase. I had never designed furniture before, but they placed their trust in me by offering to design a table and a chair to launch “Cicala”.

ELLE Decoration. What choices guided the design of this outdoor lounge?

Julie Richoz. Outside, we walk around the furniture, so that the view from behind is as important as the view from the front. I therefore worked on a narrow and elongated backrest, designed by large teak slats, while favoring a posture that invites relaxation with a generous inclination and seating. The set is robust and practical, with stackable pieces, designed to adapt as well to terraces and gardens as to urban balconies.
