A fan of minimalist and subtle tones, Kate Middleton has displayed a discreet beauty look for years. However, it sometimes happens that she deviates from this royal rule when the opportunity arises.

Although there are no official regulations regarding beauty for the royal family, we nevertheless note that its members are required to respect certain standards which sometimes escape the general public. The Princess of Wales is probably the best example of this. Since her marriage to Prince William, Kate Middleton has cultivated flawless elegance, enhanced by discreet beauty that enhances her natural radiance. All of this, surrounded by vaporous hairstyles gently framing her face. No bright red mouth, no glitter on the eyelids or garish toned nails (not even on special occasions like the BAFTA ceremony or the celebration of the new year), she bets on sobriety in all circumstances.

A neutral approach which is explained by the fact that members of the British royal family must take into account not only the commitment in which they participate, but also their particular status in the United Kingdom. If she no longer reveals the brands she wears on a daily basis given her rank and a desire not to distract attention from her work, Princess Kate’s signature makeup must also be minimalist so as not to overshadow the causes she supports. However, it sometimes happens that she makes exceptions when the opportunity arises. This is evidenced by the look she displayed during the first state banquet of the year 2026, on the arm of her husband. A renowned event organized on the occasion of the state visit of the President and First Lady of Nigeria during which the Princess of Wales circumvented one of the oldest beauty rules of the Crown.

Kate Middleton ose with charcoal smoky-eyes

When the sunny days return, it is fashionable to swap dark and intense eyeshadows for more feminine and iridescent shades. Something that Kate Middleton deliberately chose to ignore by appearing, for this starry evening, with smoky-eyes showing shades of khaki brown darker than usual on the eyes. A beauty treatment with autumnal accents, the opposite of what we are used to seeing in spring, whose rich and deep pigments had been applied to the entire mobile eyelid, stretched into an elegant cat’s eye.

« Dark eye makeup, often mistakenly considered an exclusively winter look, doesn’t have to look heavy or out of place in other seasons, and the Princess of Wales proves this time and time again », confirm  la maquilleuse Natalie Rose Vella auprès du magazineÂHello! « To achieve dark eye makeup in spring, it’s all about balance. Combining a line of eyeliner or a dark, blended eye shadow with a luminous and subtle complexion allows you to enhance the look without falling into an overly dramatic effect under the spring lightÂ,” she concludes. A word to the wise, then!
