The first World Cup to bring together 48 teams was full.

Iraq on Wednesday obtained the last ticket for the 2026 World Cup (June 11-July 19), the first World Cup to bring together 48 teams and organized in three countries (United States, Canada and Mexico) in an expanded format.

The Democratic Republic of Congo emerged victorious from the second intercontinental play-off on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, snatching its first qualification since 1974 thanks to its victory against Jamaica 1-0.

Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sweden, Turkey and the Czech Republic had won the last four places reserved for Europeans on Tuesday evening.

The 48 qualified countries

Zone Amérique du Nord, Central et Caraïbes (Concacaf) : United States, Canada and Mexico, automatically qualified as organizers, Panama, Curaçao and Haiti (6)

Zone Asie (AFC) : Australia, South Korea, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq (9)

Zone Océanie (OFC) : New Zealand (1)

Zone Amérique du Sud (Conmebol) :Argentina – reigning world champion -, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay (6)

Africa Zone (CAF): Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde, South Africa, Senegal, Ivory Coast, DR Congo (10)

Cape Verde, Uzbekistan, Jordan and Curaçao will play the first World Cup finals in their history next summer.

Instructions for use

The 48 participating nations will be divided into twelve groups of four teams, the first two of which will be directly qualified for the round of 16, unprecedented in the history of the World Cup. The eight best third places will complete the table.

The opening match is scheduled for June 11, 2026 at the Azteca stadium in Mexico City. The final will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in Greater New York.

Sixteen stadiums will host matches in the competition (eleven in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada).
