On November 13, 2015, it was first their leader Guillaume Cardy, today at the head of the Raid, who presented himself at the Bataclan, neutralizing one of the hostage-takers with a bullet in the head at the risk of his life before retreating. The other police officers from BAC 75N then intervened to take care of the first injured and spectators while 90 people died at the Bataclan.
“It’s up to Laurent Nuñez to do the job!”
Insufficient to be decorated for the moment according to Le Monde and despite Emmanuel Macron’s promises, only the BRI police officers, whose cold-blooded intervention allowed the neutralization of the other remaining terrorists, will be. “They are not forgotten, their file is still on the desk of Laurent Nuñez, the Minister of the Interior who is not signing,” he adds.
“We victims of attack, we have a civilian war victim medal, which I refused – I don’t see why I would have one, I haven’t done anything exceptional – But we don’t understand why they don’t have one. We want to do everything so that they are recognized. I saw some at the end who were crying, they had never experienced anything like this. BAC police officers took out friends!”, he recalls.
“It’s not normal that they are not decorated and it’s up to Laurent Nuñez to do the job!”, he calls on RMC.
Is non-compliance with orders the cause of the absence of a medal?
“The BAC 75N agents returned against the protocols and the advice of their hierarchy,” recalls Antoine Diers on RMC Story to try to understand why these police officers would not be decorated. “And for many of these police officers this evening remains an absolute trauma on what more they could have done. To deny them this recognition for heroic acts is a second punishment,” he adds.
“It’s very petty to make distinctions using criteria that we don’t know,” tackles Olivier Truchot for his part. “We decorate dozens of people each year, artists and TV presenters. The decoration must go to those who serve the State and I don’t see why journalists have the Legion of Honor,” he adds.
