This is the second time such a dream has come true, explains the founder of the nonprofit organization: “Two years ago, a similar project was carried out for a smaller number of children, but with the same desire to offer them a memorable day.”

An unforgettable experience

It is on Thursday, April 2nd, that this simple yet beautiful dream will come true. The children will leave Brussels, take a boat on the Ostend canal, participate in collective games adapted for all, including those in special education, and live an unforgettable experience. The program includes cohesion, enjoyment, respect, and the opportunity to simply be children away from the constraints and tensions of the city. “To ensure everything goes smoothly, continues Dominique Van Hoegaerden, a strong team will be present. We will have eight motivated volunteers, eighteen nursing students from Lessines accompanied by a supervisor, as well as team members ready to welcome each child upon their arrival. We are also calling on artists to bring a creative and colorful touch to this unique day.”

In short, this initiative promises beautiful memories for these one hundred young people, as Dominique Van Hoegaerden concludes. “This day at sea is not just a moment of relaxation: it is a tangible gesture to show that dreams can exist, even in difficult circumstances, and that every child deserves a moment of happiness. Thanks to Droomfabriek and the commitment of everyone making this project possible, this dream becomes a reality. And above all, it reminds us that every small gesture can have a huge impact on children’s lives. A day of sand, laughter, and freedom, but most importantly, a day where dreams come to life, carried by solidarity, commitment, and creativity of all involved. Beyond that, there is this little journey that we take together. A journey that allows children to forget, even just for a moment, what is happening in their neighborhoods. And most importantly, there is this hope: that things may calm down for them, that a sweeter future may be possible.”
