Netflix is expanding its catalog of Japanese animation with Dandelion, a highly anticipated series set to premiere on 16th April 2026. Adapted from the first manga by Hideaki Sorachi, known for Gintama, this production blends comedy, fantasy, and reflections on death as it follows the journey of angels tasked with guiding souls to the afterlife.

Dandelion revolves around two unique characters: Tetsuo Tanba and Misaki Kurogane, members of a special division responsible for guiding spirits. Unlike other angels who expedite their missions, the Dandelion clan takes the time to listen to each soul.

Their role includes: – Finding lost spirits on Earth – Understanding the regrets holding them back – Helping them resolve what prevents them from moving on – Guiding them towards the afterlife

The story highlights various, sometimes absurd situations, such as an old man fleeing his fate by running, as well as deeper narratives related to memory and past choices.

Tanba, with a gruff demeanor, conceals a form of empathy, while Kurogane, despite a youthful appearance, possesses a formidable reputation, especially for guiding historical figures like Musashi Miyamoto.

Before the success of Gintama, Hideaki Sorachi made a mark with Dandelion, a one-shot presented in 2002 at the Tenkaichi Manga competition of Weekly Shonen Jump, where it received an honorable mention. The manga was later published in the magazine and integrated into the first volume of Gintama. This animated adaptation thus returns to the origins of its author’s universe, characterized by a mix of irony and insights into human emotions.

The series is directed by Daisuke Mataga, with narrative composition by Yosuke Suzuki and character design by Ai Asari. The music is composed by Yuki Hayashi, while animation is produced by the NAZ studio.

The voice cast includes numerous well-known figures from Japanese animation: – Chikahiro Kobayashi as Tetsuo Tanba – Megumi Han as Misaki Kurogane – Mamoru Miyano – Kazuhiko Inoue – Kensho Ono – Tomokazu Sugita – Shinichiro Miki – Rie Kugimiya

The series also expands on the original manga’s universe by enriching the characters’ backstories and introducing new narrative elements.

With Dandelion, Netflix offers a work that straddles several genres: – A supernatural comedy featuring quirky characters – A reflection on death and regrets – An episodic story centered on different souls

This narrative style allows for a balance between light-heartedness and gravity in a format that follows the tradition of Japanese animated series exploring the boundaries of reality.

The global release is scheduled from 16th April 2026 on Netflix, with the first season expected to offer several episodes focused on encounters between the living and the departed.

This series may resonate with viewers sensitive to stories where humor intertwines with more existential questions.
