Julie’s life turned upside down at the end of January when she finally realized that her children’s many troubles were linked to multiple abuses by after-school program staff.
A week after his election, Emmanuel Grégoire received three parent collectives at the Paris City Hall to discuss the scandal of the after-school program. Among the victims of this scandal, Julie* is the mother of two children aged 3 and 4 who were enrolled in kindergarten at Saint-Dominique School in the 7th arrondissement of Paris since last fall. As time went by, her children increasingly expressed their distress: tantrums, incontinence, pains, physical injuries. Until January 29, when in front of the Cash Investigation program on after-school programs, Julie and her husband realized that their children were victims of physical and sexual violence at the school.
That evening, the children recounted the bullying, abuse, and rapes. While the children never set foot in that school again, the parents attended the crisis meeting organized the next day by the various institutions. “We were all in shock at the lack of preparation for this meeting. Each institution was deflecting responsibility for these failures, some of which have been known for a long time,” Julie tells us in the video at the top of the article about the ordeal her family has had to face since these revelations. She also highlights the violence of the legal process and “the omerta” surrounding this scandal.
