“This is the second time that such a dream has come true,” explains the founder of the non-profit organization. “Two years ago, a similar project was carried out for a smaller number of children, but with the same desire to offer them a memorable day.”

Unforgettable experience

This simple yet beautiful dream will come true on Thursday, April 2. The children will depart from Brussels, take a boat on the Ostend canal, participate in collective games adapted for all, including those from special education, and have an unforgettable experience.

The program includes cohesion, fun, respect, and the opportunity to simply be children away from the constraints and tensions of the city. “To ensure everything goes smoothly,” adds Dominique Van Hoegaerden, “we will have a strong team present. We will have eight motivated volunteers, eighteen nursing students from Lessines accompanied by a supervisor, as well as team members ready to welcome each child upon their arrival. We are also calling on artists to bring a creative and colorful touch to this unique day.”

In short, this initiative promises beautiful memories for these one hundred young people, as Dominique Van Hoegaerden concludes. “This day at the sea is not just a moment of relaxation: it is a tangible gesture to show that dreams can exist, even in difficult circumstances, and that every child deserves a moment of happiness. Thanks to the Droomfabriek and the commitment of all those who make this project possible, this dream becomes reality. And most importantly, it reminds us that every small gesture can have a huge impact on the lives of children. A day of sand, laughter, and freedom, but above all, a day where dreams come to life, carried by the solidarity, commitment, and creativity of all those involved. Beyond that, there is this little bit of path that we walk together. A path that allows children to forget, if only for a moment, what is happening in their neighborhoods. And above all, there is this hope: that things can calm down for them, that a softer future may be possible.”
