After Six Years Of Waiting, Metro 2039 Has Its Date: Official Presentation On April 16

This is indeed a presentation date, not a release date. Xbox has confirmed for its part a Xbox First Look : Metro 2039 scheduled the same day, in the form of a digital-only broadcast with a first demonstration of the game.

This new episode is described as the fourth main opus signed by 4A Games, after Metro 2033 in 2010, Metro: Last Light in 2013 and Metro Exodus in 2019. The series remains directly linked to the novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky.

An event to follow also on the PC hardware side

The Metro license still has a special place for PC gamers attentive to rendering technologies. In 2018, 4A Games used Metro Exodus as an early showcase for ray tracing, before going further with Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition, the minimum configuration of which required a ray tracing compatible graphics card.

This context gives additional weight to Metro 2039 beyond the simple sequel. If 4A Games uses the same logic, this first glimpse could also serve as an indicator of the next graphic functions highlighted on PC, in particular on lighting, reflections and the possible dependence on a pipeline entirely oriented towards ray tracing.

For players, the interest of April 16 is therefore not limited to the universe or the narrative. In this series, each presentation also counts as a technical signal about the direction taken by future demanding PC games.
