After long months without news and more than three years after its first announcement, we finally had news on the next game in the Professor Layton series. During a conference by its publisher Level 5, a new trailer was revealed. The opportunity to know a little more about the characters in the game, and to confirm that it will be the Professor Layton game offering the most puzzles in the history of the series. At the end of the trailer, we discover that the game will be released in 2026, without further details for the moment. Professor Layton and the New Steam World will therefore be released in 2026 on PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
The February 2023 Nintendo Direct had a few surprises in store for us. And among them, the return of a beloved teacher is probably one of the most joyful. Hershel Layton is back in action, in a game called Professor Layton and the New Steam World, which will be released on PC, PS5,Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2026.
If it is difficult to get an exact idea of the content of the game after seeing this very short first trailer, we can however affirm that the Professor Layton finds himself back in the spotlight, after being replaced by his daughter Katrielle for some time. On the other hand, no information has been given concerning his lifelong young assistant, Luke Triton.
If you’ve never touched the license, which was a great success on Nintendo DS, the Professor Layton games are riddle and puzzle gamesin which our hero, an accomplished archaeologist, solves different cases in a given location. All in gameplay point’n’click.
For this new opus, we believe we can distinguish a retrofuturistic London, in which steam seems to play an important role, by being able to hide certain elements from our view, or by being put into action in puzzles. What is certain is that the artistic direction looks particularly careful and pretty.
