What if your photo saving app turned into a fitting room? According to a teardown of the latest Android version from Google PhotosGoogle is preparing a new section capable of transforming your gallery into a digital dressing room. After launching the virtual try-on in Google Shoppingthe Californian giant seems ready to push the fashion experience directly into the most used photo app on Android.
Spotted in version 7.71.0.895417930 by the specialized site Android Authoritythis function named internally Wardrobe promet “A digital closet, made from your photos”. Concrètement, Google Photos would collect your photos to build a virtual wardrobe and offer a real digital fitting room. It remains to be understood how this new feature would be integrated into the daily app, and especially when it arrives in France.
Google Photos: towards a virtual fitting room directly in your Collections?
D’après phoneandroidthe “Wardrobe” or “Fitting room” option will be added in the Collections tab, alongside albums, people or places. The code mentions strings like “See your wardrobe”, “Organize your outfits” and an “Outfits collection”, a sign that Google Photos wants to become a real inventory of your clothes. This already very busy tab would thus become the unique entry point to this virtual dressing room, accessible in one tap from the home page.
For the moment, these are clues in the code: Google can still change strategy or cancel the feature before its public launch. But the consistency with online try-on already present in Search and Shopping shows a clear direction for Google’s fashion ecosystem.
Google Photos fitting room: how would your virtual dressing room be generated?
The principle would be simple on the user side: Google Photos analyzes existing photos where you are wearing clothes, but also photos of isolated pieces or saved from the web. In the background, Google’s artificial intelligence isolates the clothes, identifies their type (jeans, jacket, sneakers) and places them in the collection Outfits. According to Frandroidthe whole thing would be based on Gemini to classify pieces and suggest combinations.
The animation spotted shows the possibility of putting together an outfit from clothes from different photos, then launching a “Try on” button to apply it to an avatar. The technology is reminiscent of the Virtual Try-On of Google Shoppingwhere a 2D model of the garment is “draped” realistically on different templates. The goal here would be to preview a look before wearing it or purchasing a new matching piece.
Good news for those who resist: phoneandroid indicates that Google Photos would provide an option to completely disable this digital wardrobe in settings.
When will the Google Photos fitting room be available in France?
As of April 9, 2026, the feature appears neither in the stable version nor in the public beta of Google Photos. As recalled Android Authorityan APK teardown does not guarantee release or timing. The most credible scenario remains a launch first in the United States, before a gradual deployment to Europe and France.
The day the function is active, you will need to monitor the Collections tab: a block Wardrobe or Fitting roomaccompanied by a collection Outfits and a “Try it” button should appear. To take advantage of this, it will be better to have full-length, well-lit photos where the clothes are visible. Those who do not want this clothing tracking will be able to deactivate the function, a key point for French users concerned about confidentiality.
