The most compact ThinkPad gains new chips without touching the chassis, a discreet update which could above all boost autonomy. The Intel and AMD options go up a notch, with a clear benefit in terms of efficiency.
ThinkPad X13 Gen 7: Intel Panther Lake and AMD Ryzen AI PRO 400 platforms
Unveiled in Japan, the ThinkPad

Compared to Gen 6 limited to Arrow Lake, the arrival of Panther Lake marks an expected leap in efficiency, the previous one having skipped Lunar Lake. On the AMD side, the transition to Ryzen AI 400 also represents a generational rise.
The port mapping, keyboard and chassis remain the same. Two batteries are offered: 41 Wh or 54.7 Wh. 4G and 5G cellular connectivity is planned.
Availability, positioning and context
The Intel models are expected in mid-May, the AMD versions in late May. No price is communicated. As a benchmark, the X13 Gen 6 starts at $1,469 with a Core Ultra 5 225U, or around €1,355 excluding tax at current parity, excluding tax and regional variations.
This is the standard “clamshell” X13 and not the ThinkPad X13 Detachable 2-in-1 shown at MWC, advertised at €1,949.
The unchanged dual-platform choice suggests a strategy of continuity, with the real shift towards efficiency on the Intel side. If Lenovo maintains a controlled TDP and the 54.7 Wh battery, the Panther Lake + featherweight combination could reposition the X13 among the most durable professional ultraportables without a costly industrial overhaul.
