The group joins SpaceX, Tesla and xAI in a project to produce 1 terawatt of computing power per year for AI and robotics.

Intel shares jumped more than 10% this Wednesday, signing the best performance on the Nasdaq 100 at 7:25 p.m. (Paris time), after the announcement of its arrival in Elon Musk’s Terafab project. The American group indicated on Tuesday that it was joining SpaceX, Tesla and xAI in the Terafab project. Led by Elon Musk, this initiative aims to meet the future needs for chips for the billionaire’s various companies. Intel confirmed that Terafab aims to eventually produce 1 terawatt of computing power per year.

Intel has specified that it wants to use its capabilities for designing, manufacturing and packaging chips on a large scale. However, the group has not precisely detailed the extent of its operational contribution, beyond this declaration of principle, nor the exact timetable for implementing the project.

This announcement reinforces Intel’s recovery scenario driven by the market since the arrival of Lip-Bu Tan at the head of the group. The former manager of Cadence was appointed general manager on March 12, 2025, taking effective office on March 18, with the aim of relaunching a group in great difficulty in advanced semiconductors.

The issue has also benefited from the support of the American state since last summer. Intel announced in August 2025 an agreement providing for a public investment of $8.9 billion in its capital, corresponding to a 9.9% stake. This support strengthened the credibility of the manufacturer in its attempt at industrial and financial recovery.
