Every year, April 1 transforms tech into a playground where brands have fun blurring the lines between innovations and absurdities. In worlds as serious as hi-fi, home cinema or gaming, the contrast is often irresistible. Here is a selection of the best April Fools’ jokes that made you smile… and sometimes sow doubt.

The first audiophile perfume at Son-Vidéo.com
Son-Vidéo.com hit hard with an April Fool’s joke as absurd as it was brilliantly executed: an audiophile perfume called The Cinema Man. Presented with all the seriousness of a high-end product, it promised a “three-dimensional olfactory scene” and technologies worthy of Dolby Atmos… but for the nose. Between nanotechnologies, broad spectrum diffusion and sensory immersion, the speech humorously took up the codes of high fidelity. The tastiest undoubtedly remains the perfectly credible tone of the product sheet, capable of making even the most seasoned enthusiasts doubt… for at least a few seconds.
Easylounge : un téléviseur à double flux vidéo
The e-commerce site EasyLounge has imagined a television as futuristic as it is improbable with its “Dual Vision 65” model, capable of broadcasting two different contents on a single screen. Thanks to a mysterious Directional Conical Pixel technology, everyone could watch their program according to their viewing angle, without glasses or separation. Add to that BeamSound directional sound and you have a living room where no one is fighting over the remote anymore… at least in theory. The concept is attractive, almost credible as it takes up the codes of high-tech innovation, but fortunately remains in the register of well-mastered April Fool’s Day.

A cutting board from Asus
Asus also played the game on April 1 with an announcement that was unexpected to say the least: a high-tech cutting board in Ceraluminum. Presented as a premium product for exclusive pre-order, it included all the codes of gaming hardware, with a “revolutionary” material supposed to offer robustness, lightness and durability… even in the kitchen. The wink is obvious for those familiar with the brand, which here diverts its usual innovations towards a totally improbable use. Between ultra-serious marketing and improbable concept, it’s difficult not to smile at this foray by Asus into the culinary art.

Philips Hue : the PartyAware ecosystem to party
With PartyAware, Philips Hue has imagined a festive ecosystem that is as immersive as it is exaggerated, combining interactive light panels and smartphone accessories. The “Floor Tiles†transform the floor into a real reactive dance floor, while the LED strips for phones synchronize each device with the sound and light ambiance. Everything promises a collective experience where light, music and movement become one. Behind this seductive concept, the joke is based on an amplification of the already known uses of Hue, pushed here to the extreme to create a totally connected party… almost too perfect to be true.

A chat support and a USB stick at 9999 FPS at MSI
MSI has focused on humor well-rooted in gaming culture with two fake products that are as absurd as they are perfectly targeted. On one side, a screen arm incorporating a cat bed with heating and RGB, an obvious nod to the setups invaded by our four-legged companions. On the other, a “FPS-Turbo” USB key promising to instantly boost performance up to 9 999 FPS, as if by magic. Two deliberately exaggerated ideas, which play on players’ well-known fantasies, between ultimate optimization and feline comfort, for a result that is as funny as it is relevant.

Bitmo Lab: an accessory for simracing enthusiasts… on iPhone
With GearShift, Bitmo Lab has imagined an accessory that is as unexpected as it is fun: a MagSafe gear lever for iPhone. Entirely mechanical, without electronics or battery, it promised to transform each use of the smartphone into a “sporty” experience, with a real click like a manual gearbox. Between anti-stress gadget, tilting support and a nod to the automotive world, the concept cleverly plays on the nostalgia of touch and gesture. Totally useless and therefore absolutely essential… time for a well-felt April Fool’s joke, which almost makes you want to switch your notifications to first gear.

The Shure SM58 microphone in a dented version
Shure has perfectly understood the almost mythical aura of its famous Shure SM58 with a “Pre-Dented Edition” version that is as funny as it is relevant. Delivered with an already dented grille, this microphone promised to instantly offer the look of an artist who has been touring for 20 years, without going through stage drops or hectic soundchecks. A tasty nod to the legendary robustness of the SM58, known to survive everything… except the absence of dents. A simple joke, but terribly effective for all those who have already encountered this legendary microphone.

Technics SL1200 M8D Digital: a DJ turntable with a “SYNC” button
The OneMusic.hu site offered a particularly well-targeted April Fool’s joke by hijacking the legendary Technics SL-1200 with a totally improbable “M8D” version. On the program: SYNC button, BPM display and digital functions worthy of modern controllers, all grafted onto an icon of traditional DJing. The contrast is deliberately absurd and works wonderfully, since it opposes the manual know-how of DJs to an often criticized automation. A false development which borders on sacrilege… and which hits the mark precisely for this reason.

Finally, these April fools remind us that even the most serious brands know how to slow down and play with their own codes. Between improbable concepts and well-felt winks, they offer a refreshing break in an often very technical world. And if some ideas make you smile, others are almost credible… which makes them even more successful. Fortunately, to equip yourself with hi-fi, home cinema or gaming, there are also good products real stories to discover on Son-Vidéo.com!
