A well-known leaker unearthed new information this week regarding the performance of the potential PlayStation 6 Portable. The latter would notably succeed in beating the Xbox Series S… a console which will soon celebrate its sixth anniversary.

Far from being confirmed by Sony, the portable PlayStation 6 is the subject of much speculation. A year after first telling us about the alleged performance level of this new console, the leaker KeplerL2 returns this week with more details.
Specialized in monitoring CPU/GPU chips, and often very well informed, the person concerned suggests that this portable PS6 would have superior performance to that of an Xbox Series S. In this case, it would manage to beat Microsoft’s entry-level console in both rasterization and raytracing, all by relying on PSSR 3 to boost its potential.

This future version of the device SuperSampling concocted by Sony (based on AMD’s FSR) would in this case be capable of outperforming DLSS ” Light » currently offered by Nvidia on the Switch 2, but also to deliver better image quality than the current DLSS 4.5.
Performance especially driven by the PSSR 3?
In detail, KeplerL2 explains that “ with GPU [de la PS6 portable] will be slightly ahead of that of the Xbox Series S in rasterization and, of course, significantly faster in ray-tracing HAS”. This clarification is added to a first draft of the technical sheet, drawn up by the leaker. The PlayStation 6 Portable would thus be based on:
- A hexacore CPU combining 4 courses Zen 6c and 2 courses Zen 6 LP
- A GPU RDNA 5 to 16 computing units
- Support for up to 24 GB of LPDDR5x (on a 192-bit bus)
The whole thing would be engraved in 3 nm by TSMC and would fit on a die 135 mm².
These specifications, if they are confirmed, suggest a machine with recent technologies… but which would nevertheless stick to a raw computing power slightly higher than that of a console launched in 2020. Which is not really exciting when you consider it thinks. Sony would therefore rely massively on the SuperSampling to set the mayonnaise.
As a reminder, the portable PlayStation 6 is expected for 2027. The console could arrive on the market at a starting price of 399 dollars according to some analysts… an entry ticket much lower than that of the current PlayStation 5, whose prices have soared again in France.
