Xbox Mag it’s over!
We never thought we’d be able to say that one day, but yes, you read that right:after 25 years of good and loyal serviceit is with a certain emotion that we decided to close a long chapter of a story that began at the end of 2001, at the time of the arrival of the first Xbox console in the United States.
A decision which was not easy to make, and which had already been the subject of debate within the editorial staff many years ago, but the attachment to the site has always been stronger than anything. But this time it is indeed concrete, and our propensity to play with the second degree could not miss this date of April 1st to make this important announcement to you. It remains to share with you the reasons which pushed us to make this choice.
So this makes two and a half decades we’ve been covering Xbox brand newsand this despite decisions which have not always seemed judicious or interesting for the consumer (which we have never failed to emphasize). However, the decisions taken by Microsoft over the last two years, consequences of the acquisition of Activision and a new strategy put in place, have cast a great deal of uncertainty over the future of the Xbox brandrelegating consoles to the background in the process. Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond also paid the price for this mismanagement, while some colleagues switched to a “multiplatform” editorial line a little earlier this year.
In order to ensure the future of the site and no longer be dependent on the bad decisions of a single manufacturer, at the end of last year we made the decision to startprofound changes to Xbox Magto make it something more open and more in line with our way of consuming video games. We will no longer be content to only cover Xbox news, since our articles will now extend to the PlayStation and Switch universes, while retaining our current model and state of mind: news, tests, lots of other content and above all intact expertise. And as it is necessary to combine words with actions, it was necessary to mark this change symbolically:Xbox Mag therefore becomes Consoles Mag starting today.
Longue vie à Consoles Mag !
A choice that required a lot of courage from us since we are well aware that this will necessarily cause some difficulties in the short and medium termincluding a reset of Google referencing which, as everyone knows, is an essential tool for the survival of a website today. We expect to experience complicated months, even a year, with significant audience drops, and We are counting on your support so that we can take this step together! If you like our content, we invite you to place the address www.consolesmag.com in your favorites.
With a clear editorial line, focused on game consoles (excluding the PC universe and its exclusivities), we hope to be able to continue to bring you real added value, whether you are an Xbox, Switch or PlayStation playeror that you own, like many people now, several machines. In any case, you will always be welcome with us and, in exchange, we will be happy to offer you news tailored for YOU.
