RTX 60 series: a new architecture on TSMC 3nm

According to information shared by Red Gaming Tech, the RTX 60 series GPUs will use the GR20x silicon family, implying Nvidia’s “Rubin” generation. The manufacturing process is said to be entrusted to TSMC with a 3nm lithography, compared to the current Blackwell generation (RTX 50 series) with 4nm.

This node change allows for increased transistor density and improved energy efficiency. Beyond the traditional gains, it paves the way for a reallocation of resources towards specialized blocks: ray tracing and artificial intelligence computing.

The RTX 60 series would thus integrate 6th generation Tensor Cores and 5th generation RT Cores. A duo not only for ray tracing but especially for the new neural rendering techniques introduced with DLSS 5.

RTX 6090: the flagship Rubin in detail

The high-end RTX 6090 would be based on the GR202 die, with a complete configuration of up to 192 Stream Multiprocessors (SM). Nvidia is likely not to use the entire die for the 6090, a common practice to optimize yields and prepare for possible variations.

In terms of memory, the 6090 would retain a 512-bit bus and 32GB of VRAM, potentially with increased bandwidth. Here too, the logic evolves: raw memory remains stable, but the efficiency of image reconstruction via AI takes on a growing role.
