After the success of the Minecraft movie and the continued popularity of the video game, an entire area of a theme park dedicated to this iconic universe is set to open near London. Exciting attractions, roller coasters, and immersive experiences have already been announced.

The United Kingdom is clearly leading the way in the theme park race. Following the announcement of a Paw Patrol dedicated land, another globally renowned license is about to reach a new milestone: Minecraft will become a real-life experience just a few kilometers from London.

An ambitious Minecraft park at Chessington

It’s official: the Minecraft universe will open in 2027 within the Chessington World of Adventures park, located just 35 minutes from central London. This strategic location confirms the tourism ambition of the project.

Behind this expansion is Merlin Entertainments, a giant in the entertainment industry in Europe, who partnered with Mojang in late 2024. The result: a massive investment of £50 million (around 57 million euros) to bring this iconic cubic universe to life.

On the agenda:

  • the world’s first Minecraft roller coasters,
  • immersive areas inspired by the game’s biomes,
  • play areas built in “blocks,”
  • interactive experiences where visitors can literally “play” in the park,
  • as well as themed restaurants and shops.

The objective is clear: to transform the world’s most famous sandbox universe into a must-visit family destination, appealing to both children and long-time fans.

Is the UK the future theme park paradise?

This project is part of a larger strategy by the UK to establish itself as a new European reference for theme parks. Chessington World of Adventures is a prime example. Originally a zoo opened in 1931 and later transformed into a theme park in the 1980s, it is currently undergoing a transformation. Alongside Minecraft, the park is also preparing another major Paw Patrol dedicated area.

However, internal competition is also intensifying. The famous Alton Towers recently announced a collaboration with Bluey, set to feature the world’s first roller coasters inspired by the series.

Furthermore, an even larger project looms: a Universal park near Bedford, about 90 kilometers from London. Inspired by the success of Epic Universe in the US, it could include licenses as powerful as Harry Potter, James Bond, or Paddington.

Minecraft, the perfect license for theme parks?

With over 300 million copies sold and a successful movie in 2025, Minecraft is a natural choice for theme parks. Its customizable universe, varied biomes, and creative dimension offer an almost infinite playground.

The essential question remains: will the experience live up to players’ imaginations?

If Merlin succeeds in its endeavor, this park could firmly establish London as a major destination for theme park enthusiasts.
