Black, largely absent from high-end iPhones
It’s a small révolution colorful which does not say its name. With the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple had already surprised by completely abandoning black and dark gray, which were omnipresent on previous generations.
Current models are only available in three finishes: silver, deep blue and cosmic orange (with its famous stripes). A bold choice, which contrasts with the more classic approach of past years. Red is back ?
The iPhone 18 Pro won’t arrive for several months, but the latest rumors could rejoice some. Apple is indeed testing a new deep reda shade much awaited for several years.
This choice would be made possible by the evolution of design. Since the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple has used an aluminum unibody chassis, offering more freedom in finishes. According to Mark Gurman, this red could become the flagship color of the next generation.
The context also works in its favor. LThe recently introduced cosmic orange model has been a real successparticularly in China. Red gold and orange being close, Apple will probably have to choose between the two. Red, a symbol of luck in Asia, could well emerge as a strategic alternative.
This return would also mark a break with recent years. Apple had abandoned the red iPhones since the iPhone 14 and the gradual end of RED products. The rumors mentioning purple or brown are in reality variations around this same idea.
A contrast with the future foldable iPhone
On the other hand, the future foldable iPhone would adopt a much more conservative. Apple would favor sober shades like black, gray or white.
A strategy that recalls the debut of the iPhone offered with only two colors. For such a new product, limiting variants would simplify production and reduce industrial risks. This contrast is interesting: Apple now seems to differentiate its ranges not only by technology, but also by their visual identity.
