What if your headphones allowed you to better endure long journeys? This is the bet of Hearapy, the new application for Samsung smartphones.

Travel sickness affects around three in ten people, Samsung tells us in the preamble to the description of its new application, launched as part of World Hearing Day 2026. The world leader in smartphones is tackling the subject and is therefore launching Hearapy, an application available exclusively on Android and compatible with products from all brands. The concept? Send a 100 Hz audio signal into your headphones to stimulate your inner ear and give you a more peaceful journey for two hours. Enough to put stars in the eyes of people prone to motion sickness.

Waves against motion sickness

Free and available on all Android smartphones, and with all headsets and earphones, Hearapy is a very simple application. Once launched on your mobile, all you have to do is press the Start button so that a low frequency wave is broadcast for one minute.

This is all it takes, Samsung assures, to significantly reduce motion sickness for about two hours. Claims supported by a university study by Japanese researchers, who recently discovered that stimulating the inner ear at 100 Hz did indeed offer some benefits for people suffering from motion sickness.

It is the responsibility of users to use the application before a long journey – this method having a more preventive than curative function. Naturally, this is not a miracle solution, but an alternative to certain medications without a prescription. If travel sickness is particularly disabling in your daily life, it is of course recommended to consult your doctor. Appropriate medications and some form of rehabilitation can help effectively reduce feelings of dizziness.

An original approach

Still, it’s fun to see Samsung investing in an application like this. Usually, it’s Google that directly enriches its Android operating system with these kinds of accessibility features.

In 2024, Samsung’s main competitor, Apple, launched a new option on its iPhones also aimed at combating travel sickness. The approach is, however, very different, since it involves making dotted lines appear on the phone screen which move in the same direction as the vehicle in which you are. Visual cues that help your brain better understand the current journey and effectively reduce the nausea that can occur when reading your phone during a vehicle journey.
