The Digital Markets Act, in force in the European Union, requires Apple to integrate certain features into iOS. Obviously, this is not to the taste of the apple brand. Apple considers that the legislation ignores “the protection of property rights and privacy and security issues, which are vital for EU citizens.â€
Interoperability is precisely one of the subjects on which Europe is intractable, while Apple fears that its users’ data will fall into the wrong hands. The Cupertino company has no choice but to comply with the will of the EU. That’s why she throws AudioAccessoryKit, which extends support for third-party audio accessories.
AudioAccessoryKit improves audio from third-party headphones on iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4
Apple presents a new framework called AudioAccessoryKit. It allows compatible third-party audio headphones to exchange data with iOS for a smarter audio delivery.
« This framework is only compatible with iPhone and iPad. You can develop and test an application using this framework on devices in any region. Currently, the framework only allows compilation for development purposes or ad hoc testing. It will support submission to the App Store, TestFlight and other distribution methods at a later date. ”, said Apple.
The framework also allows Bluetooth accessories to share their connection information. The Cupertino company makes it clear to developers that only users devices located in the EU and connected to a European Apple account can benefit from this new feature. The list of compatible headphones is not yet available.
Please note, the support document available on the Apple site specifies that AudioAccessoryKit and most associated APIs are only compatible with iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4 and later versions. Remember that the first developer beta of iOS 26.5 has just arrived on iPhone.
