Here is a small overview of the expected AI advancements from Apple this summer with the iOS 27 update for iPhones.
Apple’s WWDC 2026 conference is scheduled for June 8, 2026. We are eagerly awaiting it to discover the first official announcements regarding iOS 27, the future major update for iPhones.
With iOS 27, Apple is expected to take a significant step forward in the field of artificial intelligence. While not necessarily catching up with industry giants, the company could finally offer more convincing Apple Intelligence functions and develop a credible long-term strategy.
Here is what we expect from Apple in terms of AI enhancements with iOS 27.
A More Powerful AI thanks to Google Gemini
iOS 27 should be marked by the partnership between Apple and Google. Through this partnership, Siri is expected to become more powerful thanks to the capabilities of Gemini.
Practically, you probably won’t see any reference to Gemini when using the new Siri. In this apparently very lucrative deal, Google should operate as a white label, letting Apple have total control of the interface. Thus, users will feel like everything is made in Cupertino.
Apple would have the right to adjust various parameters of the Gemini model running on iPhones to align perfectly with the Apple brand image and values it wants to project. This is expected to offer finely crafted AI options for iPhones.
The company may request these adjustments from Google or even make them internally. For Apple, this will likely ensure that the new Siri remains consistent with the experience provided by the AI assistant so far. Finally, it will give Siri comprehensive knowledge to provide real answers and not just web links.
This is not all. Apple also aims to make Siri an assistant capable of providing a form of emotional support to people going through a difficult time. A highly sensitive issue where we hope AI will not play the role of mental health specialist and will promptly refer users to competent organizations.
Dedicated Siri Application
There are applications like Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc. But where is the Siri application? So far, the AI assistant has always been easily accessible on iPhones, but without a dedicated app.
With iOS 27, we should see the emergence of a proper Siri application where users can interact with the AI in writing or verbally through a chat interface. This is where we should also find a range of new assistant capabilities. In short, an app to centralize everything just like Gemini does on Android.
Siri Extensions
In iOS 27, Apple is expected to allow users to choose their preferred AI within Siri. This means you can access the interface of the historic iPhone assistant but choose to connect different LLMs.
Users would thus have the option to customize their experience if they desire. Otherwise, Siri will operate with the intelligence of Gemini.
AI Section in the App Store
To complement these extensions, Apple is also planning an AI-dedicated section in the App Store. Here, users could browse and find the desired extension.
This information suggests that there could be a large number of extensions available.
