iPhone 18 Pro: first “image” of the new Dynamic Island

It’s the first time a concrete (unofficial) image illustrates a rumor that has been circulating for several months: the Dynamic Island of the iPhone 18 Pro would be significantly smaller than that of the current models.

An X account named “Early Apple Leaks” has published a photo of a prototype clearly backlit, on which a much narrower cut than that of the iPhone 17 Pro can be clearly distinguished. Beneath the screen, a distinct circular notch seems to indicate the presence of a Face ID sensor placed behind the panel. It is this specific movement that would make the reduction possible; if Face ID goes under the screen, the remaining hole would only need to house a simple front camera, thereby freeing up additional display space at the top of the screen.

The leaker Ice Universe, whose track record with Apple leaks is generally reliable, has strengthened this information with photos of screen protectors designed for the iPhone 18 Pro. The cutouts appear much more compact than today. The leaker Majin Bu also suggests a 35% reduction in the surface area of the Dynamic Island compared to the iPhone 17 Pro.

Ice Universe has also recently stated that this evolution would not be exclusive to the Pro models. According to him, the entire iPhone 18 range would adopt a smaller Dynamic Island, with no significant changes to the screen borders. Note that Early Apple Leaks states the opposite today in its post on X.

However, it will be necessary to wait to see if these rumors are confirmed. This year, Apple will only unveil its iPhone Pro models in September. As for the standard iPhone 18, Apple has adopted a new staggered launch cycle: it is not expected until early 2027, leaving plenty of time for speculation.
