Apple has taken advantage of March 24, 2026, to simultaneously deploy iOS 26.4, macOS 26.4, and a new firmware for several models of AirPods. A well-established pace that shows the brand increasingly synchronizing its hardware and software updates.
AirPods Pro 3, Pro 2, and AirPods 4 concerns
Version 8B39 replaces different builds depending on the models: 8B34 for AirPods Pro 3, 8B28 for AirPods Pro 2, and 8B21 for AirPods 4. Apple has not yet published official release notes, but as usual, bug fixes and performance improvements are expected. Nothing spectacular at first glance, but these silent updates play an important role in the daily stability of the earphones.

And the AirPods Max 2?
This firmware arrives just a few days after the presentation of AirPods Max 2, announced on March 16 with the H2 chip and live translation. Apple then specified that some functionalities would require iOS 26.4 along with the latest available firmware. Version 8B39 could therefore be exactly the one mentioned, even though its support for AirPods Max 2 remains officially unconfirmed.
To trigger the update, simply place the AirPods in their charging case connected to power, near an iPhone or iPad connected to Wi-Fi. The installation then occurs automatically in the background, with no manual intervention possible.
