As Apple’s usual schedule seems to be on the verge of some significant adjustments, new insights shared by leaker Ice Universe on Weibo and X social networks provide details on the design of the upcoming iPhone generation.

According to information shared by leaker Ice Universe, the upcoming iPhone 18 would retain the same screen borders as the previous generation, the iPhone 17.

However, a major evolution would mark this iteration: “the iPhone 18 series retains the same border design, except for a smaller Dynamic Island; the overall size of the border remains the same as that of the iPhone 17 series,” he wrote on Weibo.

Aesthetic standardization?

Unlike previous leaks that confined the reduction of the Dynamic Island to the Pro versions only, Ice Universe suggests a generalization of this modification here. In a post on X, he further states that “all three iPhone 18 models reduce the width of the Dynamic Island.” It couldn’t be more straightforward.

This clarification indicates that the visual evolution would no longer be exclusive to the Pro range but would indeed apply to the entire catalog.

This standardization could be explained by a potentially strong strategy change by Apple. Historically, Apple introduces its aesthetic innovations on its most expensive models before cascading them to the standard versions afterwards.

However, the marketing cycle of the iPhone 18 could deviate from the norm. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected next fall at the annual keynote, while the standard iPhone 18 may not be available until 2027.

Caution is advised

This delay could potentially allow Apple to directly integrate the new Dynamic Island on the base model, explaining why initial analyses focused on the Pro range.

Despite Ice Universe’s insights, all of this should be taken with caution. Apple’s usual policy is to clearly distinguish between its iPhone segments. If the hypothesis of a staggered launch for the standard model is confirmed, it could indeed justify the simultaneous adoption of this new signature.
