The Brussels Region concludes a 500 million euro credit line with ING Belgium

The Brussels-Capital Region has concluded a credit line of 500 million euros with ING Belgium. This is what the Brussels Minister of Finance and Budget, Dirk De Smedt, announced. This facility, concluded for a period of two years with the possibility of extension, reinforces the flexibility of treasury management.

As is the case for this type of decision, ING’s assessment is based on objective parameters such as liquidity, financial planning and the borrower’s repayment capacity. Based on this analysis, the bank now finds that the short-term liquidity of the Brussels-Capital Region is sufficiently robust.

This line of credit is part of the government’s broader strategy aimed at stabilizing finances and re-establishing a credible framework. Last week, the 2026 budget was adopted in Parliament, constituting a first step towards a return to structural balance in 2029.

Dirk De Smedt, Brussels Minister of Finance and Budget: “The renewal of the collaboration with a financial player as important as ING constitutes a clear signal that Brussels is once again perceived as a reliable partner. This line of credit gives us the necessary margin to properly honor our commitments, while strengthening the foundations of our financial management. HAS”

Saskia Bauters, Head of Business Banking Belgium: “With this credit line, ING Belgium once again confirms its commitment as a Belgian universal bank to offer solid financing solutions to the public sector. Beyond being the preferred partner of entrepreneurs, we also want to be that of the public sector. Our Together for Progress strategy is our compass. HAS”
