Targeted violence. The arrest of six individuals aged 18 to 37 marks an important step in the investigation into a series of attacks targeting crypto holders in ÃŽle-de-France. Indicted on Friday March 27 in Paris for kidnapping, extortion with weapons and criminal conspiracy, these suspects, mostly from Chanteloup-les-Vignes, allegedly participated in a violent home jacking at the beginning of January. The authorities now link this team to an attack committed in Verneuil-sur-Seine as well as an aborted attempt in Puteaux, illustrating a professionalization of delinquency specifically targeting investors in cryptocurrency.
- A series of violent attacks targeting holders of digital assets in ÃŽle-de-France led to the arrest of six individuals, highlighting a worrying professionalization of delinquency in the cryptocurrency sector.
- The suspects, linked to a gang operating with extreme violence, were involved in several attacks, including a home jacking in Verneuil-sur-Seine, revealing a shocking and well-organized mode of operation.
“Chanteloup’s gang”: A mode of operation based on violence at home
Les investigations révèlent a particularly brutal criminal caseaccording to the local press. On January 4, in Verneuil-sur-Seine, four hooded men entered the home of a director of a company specializing in crypto. The attackers neutralized the family, tying up the parents and the two children before striking the father of the family.
Under threat of a gun to the head, the victim had to hand over the access codes to his digital wallets. The criminals then proceeded to transfer the equivalent of 11,000 euros in cryptocurrency to their own accounts. However, this aggression does not constitute an isolated act but is part of a precise scouting strategy. Les enquêteurs de la Research and intervention brigade (BRI) of Versailles were already monitoring this group as part of another criminal project in Puteaux.
On January 8, a police intervention in the stairwell of a building in Hauts-de-Seine made it possible to surprise four members of the gang as they prepared to attack another investor. The seizure of fake weapons, tasers, walkie-talkies and forcing equipment confirms the organized nature of their operations. And the incapacitation of this team comes in a climate of increased vigilance for police services.

A judicial response to the rise in targeted crypto extortion
The French territory thus records a notable frequency of attacks of this typewith an average of one extortion every five days since the start of the year. The difficulty of initial traceability of crypto transactions attracts criminal profiles from organized crime or everyday petty crime, motivated byhope of quick and significant gains. However, the recent raid demonstrates that physical surveillance techniques and digital investigations make it possible to trace the lines.
The investigating judge ordered placement in provisional detention four of the six indicted, while the last two are subject to judicial review. Suspects face up to twenty years of criminal imprisonment before a criminal court. This case also highlights the need for holders of digital capital to strengthen their discretion and personal security, while criminals no longer hesitate to attack family circles to obtain encryption keys by force.
The outcome of this investigation underlines the effectiveness of coordination between the BIS and the judicial police services to counter these new forms of crime. If the loot of 11,000 euros may seem modest in view of the violence deployed, the repetition of the attempts shows a desire to multiply the targets. Justice sends a signal of firmness in the face of acts whose psychological consequences on the victims, particularly minors, remain lasting. Monitoring financial flows resulting from these thefts now constitutes the next technical part for specialist investigators.
