Gathered in a general assembly this Saturday at the Kaloum Labor Exchange, those responsible for the education inter-union (FSPE–SNE) adopted a firmer stance against the government, while making a clear break with the SLECG. At the heart of the discussions: the application of the commitments resulting from the memorandum of understanding signed in January 2026 and the defense of the living conditions of teachers.
On behalf of the FSPE, Hamidou Touré, representing Secretary General Alpha Gassim Barry on a mission abroad, expressed a vigilant expectation, accompanied by a clear warning: “first firmly in a short time, things will move. So this is not the case, the fatal weapon which has not been ventilated will be put into action. So frankly, we have heard too much and we have taken note of your concerns. I really hope that we will have a favorable outcome within 72 hours. After this we will act.”
For his part, the general secretary of the SNE, Michel Pépé Balamou, detailed the decisions taken at the end of the meeting. In particular, he announced a break with the SLECG, accused of no longer defending the interests of teachers. “At the end of this large and successful general assembly, we are leaving this room with firm and clear resolutions,” he declared, before adding: “the education inter-union FSPE SNE is no longer ready to work with the SLECG which no longer defends the material and moral interests of teachers, but joins forces with the government to keep teachers in poverty and insecurity.”
Addressing the authorities directly, the union leader set a precise deadline for the implementation of the commitments made, in particular the establishment of the commissions provided for in the agreement of January 3: “we are giving the government a moratorium interest which will run until next Friday. Time for the prime minister, leader of the movement, the leader of government, Amadou Oury Bah, to take up the file to be able to examine it and that the conclusions resulting from the memorandum of understanding of January 3, 2026, that is to say the establishment of the three commissions, be effective from next Monday If from Monday until next Friday, the joint decrees are not signed… we will convene an assembly. extraordinary, decisive general.
The threat of a resumption of the strike, suspended since December 2025, was also clearly mentioned: “we will not even need to ask you to go on strike… the strike called on December 1 2025 has only been suspended. A simple press release lifting the suspensions will be enough for the strike to resume on Monday April 20, 2026. Remember this date. HAS”
In this dynamic, union leaders are announcing an active phase of mobilization on the ground to prepare teachers for a possible resumption of the movement: “let’s take advantage of the coming week, we are going to go door to door, going from school to school, mobilizing, informing, making teachers aware of the effect of preparing for the strike on Monday April 20, 2026. »
Finally, Michel Pépé Balamou insisted on the loss of confidence of teachers in certain union structures and called on the government to favor interlocutors considered representative: “teachers no longer have confidence in themselves… they no longer have a basis. And for the government to understand this in order to negotiate with the unions who are listened to, it is the FSPE, it is the SNE. And we are ready to work with the government, but in the direction of defending the material and moral interests of teachers.”
