Friday’s lockdown ended at the University of Ottawa, confirm the university and the city’s police department. The police made an arrest “following an investigation […] concerning a suspicious individual.
L’université avait émis une alerte au confinement vendredi à 17 h 18 à cause d’une « situation violente sur le campus ». L’alerte a été levée à 19 h 10.
“We recognize that this type of situation can be trying,” the university declared after the end of confinement in a press release before highlighting the “support and well-being services” available to the university community.
The alert asked people to avoid the campus and for those who are there to take shelter.
“If a violent person approaches, prepare to run, hide, or, if your life is in immediate danger, defend yourself by any means necessary until you can escape,” it was written.
The Ottawa police service, for its part, reported on
“No injuries were reported,†the publication added. “The officers remain on site and are collaborating with the University of Ottawa security service.â€
Service is also restored to the “uOttawa” station of OC Transpo, Ottawa’s public transit service, which was closed earlier. The trains were still in service but did not stop at the station.
