The “Musician’s Instrument” Fund, managed by the King Baudoin Foundation, was born from an observation: around 20% of students at Belgian Conservatories do not own an instrument commensurate with their talent. This situation handicaps the artistic development of young musicians and compromises their career prospects.
Through meeting many students in the Conservatoires, François de Briey, an art and music lover, realized that there was a real lack in the quality of the instruments that certain students possessed. At the origin of this project, François de Briey brought together Frédéric d’Ursel, Véronique Bogaerts and Marie Hallynck to create this solidarity fund.
Since its creation, the fund has helped 19 students acquire their own instrument and around ten others benefit from instrument loans. “The feedback is just wonderful because when the person finds the instrument that suits them and it becomes theirs, it’s extremely moving”testifies the violinist.
The selection of winners is carried out in two stages: a pre-selection based on application assessing the financial needs and the artistic project, followed by a musical audition and an interview. The jury includes members of the fund, a delegate from the King Baudouin Foundation and representatives of the conservatories of Wallonia.
