The province of Luxembourg lacks veterinarians, especially rural veterinarians who care for farm animals. This shortage is increasing. The age pyramid is unfavorable “50% of veterinarians are over 50 years old” details Coralie Bonnet, president of the Provincial College. To try to improve the situation, the province of Luxembourg has put in place an action plan since 2024. The fifth part of this plan is the purchase, equipment and provision of a van transformed into a mobile clinic. A real small laboratory that can accommodate up to 9 people. Everything is made available to veterinary students at ULiège. The purchase and operating costs are covered by the province of Luxembourg. A partnership to bring students one day a week to farms across the province. The niche: discover the reality on the ground and a profession that is modernizing, to break the clichés and apprehensions that surround a profession essential to maintaining livestock farming.
