The boys, then the girls of Mont-à-Leux

This destiny begins with Thérèse Vanmarcke known as “Mme Sory” who spent her entire career at the Mont-à-Leux municipal school, now called the Raymond Devos school. “At the time, it was easy to get there since she lived opposite ! She started her job on the boys’ side, before spending most of her career there on the girls’ side, in primary 3 only. She quit in 1988 to take care of her three grandchildren : Julien, Rémy and Gauthier. In all, she will have seven grandsons and one granddaughter.explains his daughter Marie-Pierre Sory, who grew up alongside her brothers Michel and Paul.

“At the time, in August, the teachers would go around the houses in the neighborhood to introduce themselves and get to know the future children they would have in their class”

Marie-Pierre will follow in her mother’s footsteps in a – long – first time! “I also worked for twenty years at the Mont-à-Leux school but in nursery school, I preferred this section for the emotional bonds that we can create with these little ones. I was very little and I already had my board, my notebooks and my dolls to play teacher since I had the model in front of me !”

The proximity to France was felt in class: “60 à 70 % of children came from across the border. With amusement, we said that we were a branch of La Redoute because we were on the workers’ path. The French already liked coming to us because the classes were less populated than at home and the concept of daycare didn’t exist either, they had to pass for a nanny…

“Mme Sory” and “Madame Marie-Pierre” as they were called in classes will work in the same border establishment since our interlocutor will arrive there in 1983.I left in 2003 to go to the CEE, still in kindergarten, because I lived and still live nearby, and my children were educated there. I also stayed there for around twenty years. This is how I had at the CEE the children of children that I had had long before in Mont-à-Leux !”

Even today, Marie-Pierre Sory is not idle with 7 grandchildren!

Like her mother, Lison prefers kindergarten

Her daughter Lison Ghesquier is now following in her mother’s footsteps, working for local schools without a specific assignment for the moment. “I replaced mom at the CEE when she retired. Currently, I am assigned to Saint-Exupéry.” She also prefers to take care of the little ones in kindergarten.”giving a lot of love”having appreciated the operation at a time when children could still accompany their parent-teacher within the school during educational conferences for example… “Teacher, cwas obvious !”

Today, the joke in the family is to wonder if, after a succession of three generations of female teachers working for the town of Mouscron, little Alba Motte will follow the same path! “In any case, I am happy and proud to have been able to show my grandmother, to whom I am very close, her great-granddaughter while she was alive.”concludes Lison.
