Nguyen Linh Chi, a student at Marie Curie High School, has just been admitted to several prestigious American universities, including the University of California at Berkeley, one of the main public universities in the United States, and New York University, ranked 31st in the world.
“As soon as I received the admission letters from universities, I heaved a sigh of relief. I was overwhelmed with joy when I was accepted to New York University – the institution I had always dreamed of and the first to send me an admission letter during the first admissions phase, ”said declared Linh Chi.
Dix ans à se consacrer à l’art
Linh Chi has been practicing the arts for 10 years, figure skating being her favorite discipline. She discovered this sport at the age of 8.
While walking through the mall, Chi and his brother asked their mother out of curiosity if they could go to the ice rink to try it out.
“I wondered how everyone could keep their balance and slide so easily on the ice. It made me want to experience it myself. Fortunately, my parents were very supportive and allowed us to come and train here regularly,” Chi said.
After a while, the coaches noticed the brothers’ talent and encouraged the family to let them both train systematically in the sport.

Chi remembers that her beginnings were not easy: she had to constantly keep her balance, move and turn. Falls and scratches were common. But thanks to his perseverance and continued training, Chi progressed very quickly.
Once the basic techniques were mastered, Chi tackled more demanding solo and duo performances. The main obstacle at this stage was that the country’s ice rinks did not meet international standards. In addition, this sport was still underdeveloped in Vietnam, which made it difficult to recruit qualified instructors.
In order to provide the best possible environment for their daughter, Chi’s family hired a foreign coach for online training sessions. During these long sessions, Chi’s father would record the entire process on his phone to send to the coach so he could make technical corrections.
Every year, Chi and his brother also participate in numerous training courses in Japan, Australia and Thailand. “There were times when I spent more time on planes than in school,†Chi recalls.

To date, Chi has won 9 national gold medals and 2 gold medals at the Asian Championships held in Indonesia and Thailand. Additionally, Chi became the first representative from Vietnam and Southeast Asia to compete in the ice dancing event at the World Junior Championships.
The student received the title of Master in figure skating and joined the national team of this sport in 2023.
Besides figure skating, Chi also practices dance, music and painting. She won first prize in the Junior Showcase category at the Hanoi Stars Dance Festival.
Despite a busy training schedule, with an average of 5 to 6 sessions per week of one to two hours each, Chi maintains excellent academic results. “When I’m not competing, I divide my time wisely between training and studies so as not to be overloaded,” explains the student.
Admitted to several American universities.
Passionate about art, Linh Chi once dreamed of studying in the United States to develop her talents. However, instead of specializing in art, she chose a more pragmatic path: hotel management.
“I think it’s better to choose your major before choosing a university, because a suitable major will determine your career path in the long run. It is not recommended to choose a prestigious university but without proper specialization,” Chi said.
The student said her years of artistic experience helped her refine her ability to perceive and express emotions. These are important assets in the service sector.

In her essay, Chi shares her journey into figure skating and how she shares her passion through teaching and volunteering. “I get great joy from teaching figure skating to children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. I also participated in the choreography of the ballet “Colors of Childhood,” one of the biggest shows for teenagers in Vietnam, and organized free drawing and dance classes for hundreds of young people,” says Chi.
In order to better understand his field of study, Chi actively sought internship opportunities at a major hotel to accumulate practical experience in his specialization.
After his studies, Chi completed an internship in the human resources department of a hotel until 5 p.m., observing the operation of a 5-star hotel and experiencing first-hand a professional working environment.
“The time spent gaining real-world work experience and making contacts gave me a better understanding of the industry and strengthened my resolve to follow this path,†Chi said.

Although admitted to several prestigious universities, Chi chose New York University because it offered the degree program she wanted. Additionally, New York, where the university is located, is a major hub in the service and hospitality sectors, offering numerous internship and career development opportunities.
Next August, Linh Chi will leave for the United States. She plans to take several preparatory courses there before officially starting her bachelor’s degree course.
