Heard on April 2, 2026 by the Senate commission of inquiry into the capacity of French universities to guarantee academic excellence in the public service of higher education, Lamri Adoui, president of France Universities, recalled a strong conviction: supporting The University is a political choice which involves the future of the country.
“The French university is a dynamic institution which works with local authorities, the economic world and civil society,” he underlined.
A major player in social, economic and cultural cohesion in all territories, the University trains hundreds of thousands of students each year. “We are the ones who provide qualifications, skills,” recalled the president of France Universities.
Universities also host 90% of French public research and innovation, contributing directly to the country’s competitiveness and scientific sovereignty.
“If we agree that the future of our youth and the competitiveness of our country are crucial, then we must support universities,” he said.
To fully fulfill their missions, to train, integrate, create, innovate, universities need resources commensurate with their responsibilities and real autonomy allowing them to anticipate and adapt to changes in society.
