The Ministry of National Education has just published the “added value indicators” of high schools. Overview of the positioning of Aude establishments, to see beyond the gross baccalaureate success rates and mentions.

The high school value added indices (IVAL) 2025 were made public this Friday, April 3, 2026 by the Ministry of National Education. Created in 1993, this barometer does not simply classify establishments according to their success rate, their rate of baccalaureate mentions or even the number of students supported until the exam. It takes into account the social and academic characteristics of the students. Thus, the Department of Evaluation, Foresight and Performance (DEPP), the statistical service of the ministry, establishes an added value based on the expected rate and the observed rate (difference between the two). “It is a question of providing a more complete, more relevant and fairer vision of the actions of establishments, because the gross rates depend strongly on external factors and do not make it possible to differentiate what is due to high school from what relates to the skills developed by the students before to enter”Magda Tomasini, head of the DEPP, explains to the newspaper Le Monde. Based on these criteria, five categories (below expectations, neutral, supportive, selective, efficient) are defined.

In Aude, for general and technological high schools, two high schools are “in deçà des attentes”the Jules-Fil high school in Carcassonne and the Louise-Michel high school in Narbonne. With a social position index* of 103.7 (the most disadvantaged high school in the country has a IPS of 58, the most advantaged 161), the first has a baccalaureate success rate of 91% (expected 94%) and an access rate for the second to the baccalaureate of 81% (expected 85%), but on the other hand a mention rate of 58% (expected 53%). For the second, whose IPS is 107.9, it achieves a 90% baccalaureate success rate (expected 94%), an access rate for the second baccalaureate of 83% (expected 84%) and a mention rate of 49% (expected 51%). Across the national territory, nearly 16% of public high schools (like Jules-Fil and Louise-Michel) are in the category “in deçà des attentes”compared to 6.5% of private high schools.

The Germaine-Tillion high school in Castelnaudary in the family of so-called “accompanying” high schools

The high schools Paul-Sabatier (Carcassonne, 96% at the baccalaureate, value added 0), Jacques-Ruffié (Limoux, 94% at the baccalaureate, – 2), Lacroix (Narbonne 97%, 0), Saint-Louis (Carcassonne, 100% at the baccalaureate, + 2) and Ernest-Ferroul (Lézignan-Corbières, 97% in the baccalaureate, +1) enter the family of“neutral”. Which means that the results obtained correspond to the expected rates. These are often establishments with high expected rates. The margin for progress in “added value” is therefore necessarily more limited. At the national level, 50% of public high schools and 45.6% of private high schools under contract are in this situation. Note that in Aude, the Carcassonne Saint-Louis private high school obtains 100% success in the baccalaureate (expected 98%), but with the highest IPS in the department (126.2).

The Germaine-Tillion high school in Castelnaudary (IPS: 111.8) is “accompanist”with an access rate for the second to the baccalaureate of 91% (expected 86%), the highest in the department, like its added value (+7) and a success in the baccalaureate of 96% (expected 97%). The so-called high schools “accompanists” are those who bring a significant number of their students to success in the baccalaureate, even if this involves repeating a year. Of all French high schools, there are 133 in this category, including 125 public establishments.

Finally, the Narbonne private high school Beauséjour (IPS: 124.5) is placed in the category “sélectif”like 24% of private high schools in France, compared to less than 9% for the public. To be deciphered as follows: an added value (+1) on the baccalaureate success rate (99% compared to 98% expected), but which does not keep all the students it welcomes in 2 until the baccalaureateof (83% versus 88% expected). This is the case for around 24% of private high schools, compared to less than 9% of their public counterparts. Please note, there are no establishments in Aude classified “performant”.

For professional high schools, which welcome students who are much more disadvantaged and experiencing academic difficulties than general and technological high schools, particularly in the public sector, the Louise-Michel high schools (Narbonne, 73% at the baccalaureate, – 5), Ernest-Ferroul (Lézignan, 78% for the baccalaureate, – 10) and Jules-Fil (Carcassonne, 79% for the baccalaureate, – 4) are “in deçà des attentes”. The Saint-Louis (Carcassonne, 95% baccalaureate, +2), Germaine-Tillion (Castelnaudary, 85% baccalaureate, +2) and Beauséjour (Narbonne, 94% baccalaureate, +3) high schools are “neutral”. Les lycées Charles-Cros (Carcassonne, 86 % au bac, + 2) and Jacques-Ruffié (Limoux, 91 % au bac, + 5) are “sélectifs”.

* The social position index (IPS) of a school is an indicator calculated by the DEPP. The latter summarizes the socio-economic and cultural conditions of the families of the students hosted in the establishment. The IPS thus makes it possible to account for existing social disparities between establishments and within these same establishments.
